Visa is launching a program where your selfie might be a huge aid in helping you apply for your next credit card.
The thought process here is that if a person is applying for a credit card on their smartphone, they can use a selfie along with a picture of their driver’s license or passport. From there, the technology involved will scan the photos, searching for similarities while also looking up the validity of the driver’s license or passport info. This whole process will take mere seconds.
Selfies may also aid in online purchases as well, especially because online fraud is still rampant despite the advent of the credit card chip (since that only deals with in-store purchases). Rather than autodialing or emailing a customer to verify a transaction, the technology will instead allow customers to take a selfie or record their voice to verify.
